My MIST experience boiled down in just under 3 minutes
Rather read than watch?
Here is the transcript:
Welcome to my MIST e-portfolio. I am a member of the MIST cohort 7.
I will briefly describe
It was not until I was busily working my way through term 1 IST522- instructional design and IST-524 instructional technology; that light dawned on marble head. “Wait a second…this is the science OF instructional design …” Luckily that worked for me just as well since as a teacher the skill set is to be able to disseminate information so that others can understand; which is the most basic description of instructional design.
The instructional design information was interesting and at times enlightening. The MIST program also was dovetailing nicely with the instructional changes occurring within my school district. There is a large emphasis on clear learning goals, and objectives along with the incorporation of 21st century technology skills. Thus MIST helped me be ahead of the learning curve and made the transition to this ‘new’ method more efficient for me.
Being new to online learning required some adaptation. The biggest obstacle was learning how to use the student information program…iLearn. Beyond that it was making sure to always check my email, communicate effectively with my teammates, and keep up with the deadlines. As long as the professors did not put in random deadlines, and I did not let my school work slide, things were manageable.
So now I am almost done I would have to say the most valuable skill I gained from participating in MIST, would have to be trusting in my ability to learn, use, and trouble shoot technology on my own. My confidence in my tech skills has improved dramatically. As long as I have the time to work through the issues I am willing to give it multiple tries.
